De gustibus non est disputandum

" Close your eyes,
fall in love,
stay there. "

Invítame a un café y me seducirás.

My two sisters and I were bemused that in the space of eight days, the Oscar winner, self-appointed lifestyle guru, and Beyoncé-song consultant Gwyneth Paltrow has catapulted herself from Star magazine’s Most Hated Celebrity (More Hated Than Chris Brown Edition) to People’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World.
And I think people hate Gwyneth Paltrow for all the same reasons that people have always hated the Jews(prosperity and success) and many more attributes that are too many too mention.
She once claimed that she did not believe in religion.
But now Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed she wants to raise her children in the Jewish faith...for these she will be hated even more.

I love this last minute cameo appearance by Bogart and Bacall....wow....

iTunes turns 10

Over the course of its ten-year existence, the iTunes Store has evolved even as it has stood stock-still. Starting out as an online store that sold protected digital audio files, it expanded to include sales (and, in some cases, rentals) of movies, TV shows, apps, and books (both audio and electronic). Where it remains unbudged, though, is in its central mission: Sell, sell, and sell some more.

I have mentioned this in the past, I do not smoke, have never smoked but since my philosophy is- live and let live......I do not have a problem with that, as long as no one is blowing cigarette smoke my way....but my point is, that in the days where people could smoke anywhere -  I decided to start a collection of matches from around the world. I feel I have one of the best collections in the world....too many to display here...but here is a sample.....

Kreayshawn – Gucci Gucci
The video that started off as a viral YouTube sensation skyrocketed pint-sized Oakland rapper Kreayshawn to unlikely sartorial stardom.

and yes, Don Corleone was troppo furbi.

An Interesting Italian Word: Furbo(a)
In case you did not know, it means crafty, clever, smart, sharp, astute and sly. Not all at the same time, mind you. You need to know the context.
Learning Italian in Italy can help you appreciate such subtleties, as can doing an Italian culture course. Reading this blog may well help too.(smiles)....and one of my Israeli friends, Ortal, loves this word.

Signore Fabio Capello in una recente intervista parla così degli italiani:
[..]Dalla nostra abbiamo la genialità, lo stellone, ma con la costante tentazione di fare i furbi"

Bernard Arnault (furbisimo)

If you look at this image of Picasso....at this stage of his life he knew he was a great painter. However I am convinced he had no idea his paintings would fetch in the hundreds of millions of dollars.....

The Texan who stole the show at Margaret Thatcher's funeral- Amanda Thatcher. And I love women who can pull off looking great in a hat....very few can and she certainly does.

Radiating poise far beyond her years she stood calmly in the imposing surroundings of St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday and read eight labyrinthine verses of the Bible (St Paul's letter to the Ephesians 6, 10-18) at the express wish of her grandmother.

and Miroslava Duma like most Russian women always manages to look chic and elegant with hats.

a little take on Japan

Whenever you study Japan's society you inevitably encounter concepts of uchi (in-group) and soto (out-group). Groups are very important in Japan, and care is taken to avoid making any member feel that he's not a full-fledged member, be it a class in high school or a group of friends at Tokyo Disneyland.
I've learned a lot about Japan's group psychology by watching them doing a very common thing: taking photographs. When a group of Japanese takes a photo together, you can often observe one person in the group taking a picture of everyone else,  after which another member will take the camera from him and take another picture, with the first person included this time. The idea is that if it's a group photo, everyone needs to be included.

“Sans le Flore, Saint-Germain ne serait pas (ou plus) Saint-Germain. C’est LE café rive gauche par excellence. Rive droite, je ne vais pas au café. Ainsi, je ne peux pas comparer l’incomparable. L’accueil et le personnel y sont uniques. Et j’adore leur assiette nordique… On ne se refait pas !”

Yo Soy De Aqui

The question… If you could fill one ‘box’ with all that described you… What would it be?
Let’s stretch the answers to include the intellectual, the practical, the ephemeral… the serious and the not so serious… They can include goods and chattels, feelings and emotions, destinations and desires… They can be whatever spells and describes  ’you’…try it, it is fun and can be educational and insightful.

Some celebrities appear younger everyday; others get more beautiful… and then there's some who just look completely different.

Actress Megan Fox is only 26, but it already seems like she's had two completely different faces. One screams pretty teen, the other, vampish movie star.

Eccentric heiress Daphne Guinness has one of the most impressive profiles I've seen on a 45-year-old…

Victoria Beckham of yesteryear, AKA Posh Spice, whose gummy smile didn't render her so self-conscious

I am awarding 10 points for every subtle difference you can spot in Cameron Diaz's visage.

Dr. David Rosenberg

Vogue models, Hollywood starlets and Park Avenue Princesses slip into Dr Rosenberg's Upper East Side clinic. His age-defying facelifts are the talk of the world, they all flock to his practice. Instead of pulling forehead tellingly taut, he tweaks the lower half of the face, nuking wobbly jowls and sculpting swan-like necks. Later this year he will be flinging open the doors to his fabulous new surgical centre on East 64th Street.

You'd never guess Michelle Pfeiffer was 54 years old - she's sporting a fuller face now than ten years ago, and seems less drawn around the eyes.

certains des meilleurs, certains d'entre le chic et quelques-unes des belles du monde!!-some of the best, some of the chic and some of the beautiful in the world!!!!

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, wife of His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani,

I recently got these pictures from a special source, I literally felt privileged to get these two photos~~ !!!I bet this is also your first time to see these pictures, I have never seen this before on other blogs or other fashion magazines, technically I am the first one to post it ! Her Highness was wearing this gorgeous couture from Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2008 ( one of my favorite pieces in that collection), as you can see it was modified from the original gown which totally make sense.

My reading list for the week....

"   What better occupation, really, than to spend the evening at the fireside with a book, with the wind beating on the windows and the lamp burning bright. Haven’t you ever happened to come across in a book some vague notion that you’ve had, some obscure idea that returns from afar and that seems to express completely your most subtle feelings?   "

Naomi Campbell Goes Blonde for Vogue, Crystal Renn Talks Being in Love, and H&M Expands in India

I went back to my files on this.....the rumor is that Victoria Beckam will get the Vogue cover May 2013..believe it or not it would be her first cover.
