It has got to be said, I am quite the anthem junkie. One thing that's always fascinated me is the TV sign-off. Before the advent of twenty-four-hour television, channels would shut off broadcasts at a given time each night and show a "sign-off" to tell viewers to turn off the TV. Most channels all around the world (including this one, TB CCCP) showed the national anthem accompanied by patriotic images or videos; others (Like RTÉ in Ireland) would broadcast a prayer or religious song.
G-d how I miss manners and class!!!!

"Business is ruthless, it’s dirty.
If I were to say to you, "can you keep a secret?"
Would you know just what to do or where to keep it?
Untouchable memories seem to keep haunting me
Of love so true, that once turned all my gray skies blue
But you disappeared, now my eyes are filled with tears
I'm wishin' you were here with me

“The argument is a simple one: that beauty is a universal part of human experience, and that it provokes pleasure, rivets attention, and impels actions that help ensure the survival of our genes. Our extreme sensitivity to beauty is hard-wired, that is, governed by circuits in the brain shaped by natural selection. We love to look at smooth skin, thick shiny hair, curved waists, and symmetrical bodies because in the course of evolution the people who noticed these signals and desired their possessors had more reproductive success. We are their descendants. “ Survival of the Prettiest:
Things that make you go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah … Diamonds… Harry Winston … Van Cleef & Arpel … Graff … De Beers … Cartier … Tiffany & Co.
Diamonds may or may not be forever. Love, sadly, does not always last. But the allure of thick, lustrous, full, and, for want of a better word, big hair is truly eternal.Antropologists will tell you that on some primeval level it broadcasts the youth, fertility and of course, sexiness of its fortunate owner: (why else would men in certain parts of the world force women to keep it hidden?)
Would you know just what to do or where to keep it?

a Brasilian model friend(female) asked: how or why do you choose the next book(s) that you are going to read? on a whim, from a planned list in your head, from recommendations or from critiques you've read or other? so many books too little time, choices have to be made!JG: I have a colossal list and a colossal collection which contains every single book I plan to read and have read.......and I’m always adding new books (obvious). Basically, I never run out of books to read. Then the order I pick is quite random, it depends on my mood or recommendations, yes. And for books, I have all the time in the world to read.
I know what you are thinking.......yes, coffee only in porcelain cups no plastic...

“We didn’t know it at the time, but 30 years ago Billy Joel would have his last No. 1 song on the Billboard charts. We’re talking, of course, about “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” Joel’s brilliant compression of 40 years of U.S. and world history (1949-89) into one extremely catchy song less than five minutes long. ” –
Dazs Interesting.
Häagen-Dazs was invented by Jewish Polish-American immigrants Rose and Rueben Mattus in the Bronx, New York in 1961.
They opened their first store on November 15, 1976 in Brooklyn.
The name “Häagen-Dazs" is a made up word meant to sound Danish as a tribute to Denmark’s exemplary treatment of its Jews during the Second World War, and included an outline map of Denmark on early labels.
