What remains of a woman when she is in the dark? When she has undressed. When you can no longer see her make-up....her wonderful hair...her beautiful eyes, when she is taken off her jewelry, what is left? Only her charming voice and her perfume. And by the way I like women who perfume their hair tips..it's magical and alchemical.

So this week's Écoutez is a throwback, and it stars Autour de Lucie (which translates to "Around Lucy" or "I'm With Lucie"). I watched Fred Astaire's 1935 comedy Top Hat the other night. He is of course a phenomenal dancer, but he's also a very good actor. He has an intelligence about him, which would come out even if he were give a dumb role.

I think life is so much nicer when you think you’re sublime.
