Lace-up shoes and chain strap bags are two trends that I love for fall.

The city Has No smokestacks, no billboards, no visible phone wires, all businesses close by 9pm (yes, Even Starbucks), all fire hydrants are painted silver (truth be told, yellow is a bit too tacky and clashes with all the gold jewelry ), there is not Even a hospital or cemetery in the city so not to have to remind the residents or visitors of Their mortality. Then Therefore, it Can Be Said That Technically no one is born or dies in Beverly Hills.

If you've ever spoken with a Japanese person at length, you may have noticed them making strange "agreeing noises" while you were talking. It's an interesting aspect of the Japanese language called aizuchi, basically verbal sounds that a person will make to show they're listening attentively and affirming their agreement with what the other person is saying. In Japanese, I could be explaining something that happened to me, and the person I'm speaking to would say things like eeh (yes), mah (well), so (that's true), and ne (a general word of agreement). It sounds quite strange to native English speakers, but in Japanese these words are necessary for communication to flow smoothly, and if you don't make them properly the other person is likely to stop and ask you what's wrong.

THE DENIAL OF DEATH

Don’t let the title scare you – I’m not being morbid, promise!
It’s the name of this amazing not-so-new book that I’m reading…

It brings up some really interesting life changing points (so far).
And I think it’s time this winner of the 1974 Pulitzer Prize had a little resurgence.

At the core of it all, it’s an exploration of the “why?” of human existence. But, more than that (and beyond Freud, if you’re into him) is a spotlight on how we all continue to deny our own mortality, no matter how closely it grazes us – and by refusing to accept it, we fail to live the way we would if we understand the true possibility of death. (Or so, that’s what I’m taking away from it.)

Basically, it’s a call to life – a call to action. To truly live the life we want and to see all of the possibilities that lie before us; to never regret the day we just had, but instead to appreciate the weight of each moment. But written in a really elegant, and deep way (even though it gets a little overly intellectual at times…) 

It’s a poignant thing for all of us to consider: how much we have truly lived each day, rather than just going through the motions. Don’t you think? 

Do you ever stop at the end of a day and ponder whether you would have lived that day in the same way if it were your last? I’m trying to do that more and more…

This babka is worth the calories . You want (and will) eat every crumb. The babka is made with cultured butter from France, and then a mixture of Nutella and Belgian dark-chocolate chips. This sounds amazing, right? But then it is topped off with sugar syrup that gives it a rich, crisp crust with a moist, soft inside.  The babka lasts several days, and tastes good defrosted (so if you stock up like me and want to hoard them, they still taste good!)... and if are ever in Tel Aviv.....this is the place Lehamim Bakery
