Fashion is something we deal with everyday. Even people who say they don’t care what they wear choose clothes every morning that say a lot about them and how they feel that day.

Whenever you study Japan's society you inevitably encounter concepts of uchi (in-group) and soto (out-group). I've learned a lot about Japan's group psychology by watching them doing a very common thing: taking photographs. The idea is that if it's a group photo, everyone needs to be included.

The fashion for Birkenstocks is an epidemic right at this moment.

Everybody is wearing them, everywhere with everything.

I recently had dinner with a great friend who rocked the Birkenstock.

She wore the most beautiful jewelled/lace skirt…as delicate and divine as you can imagine… with a pair of pony skin Birks… ( can I call them that?)

Believe me, she looked amazing and totally cool…
